Sports Update
SOFTBALL:
Kacey Coonce
of Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University was named the NAIA Region XI Player of the Week for the week ending April 20, 2008
and Brittiany Johnson of Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) was named the NAIA Region XI Pitcher of the week for the same period.
Johnson has been
the TranSouth Pitcher of the Week seven times this year and is being honored by Region XI for the fifth time. Coonce has been
the TranSouth Player of the week twice and is being honored by Region XI for the first time. Johnson was named NAIA Pitcher
of the Week earlier this season.
Coonce, a 6-foot-0 junior from Goreville, Ill., helped Trevecca
Nazarene (Tenn.) University to a 6-0 week. She had two multiple home run games hitting three against Crichton (Tenn.) College
and two more against Lyon (Ark.) College to finish the week with five homeruns. She also had two doubles, knocked in eight
runs and scored 13 times. The NAIA No. 4 are Trojans currently 36-4 overall and are 27-1 in the TranSouth.
Johnson, a 5-foot-10
senior from Pulaski, Tenn., had a 6-0 week in the circle for the Trojans. She didn’t allow an earned run all week while
she struck out 27 batters in 18.2 innings of work. Johnson became just the third player in NAIA history to record 1,000 strike
outs. She did so with her 6th strike out in the fourth inning of TNU's 10-1 win over Lambuth (Tenn.) University.
Trevecca is ranked
No. 1 in the latest NAIA Region XI ranking.
SOFTBALL:
NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (39-5, 28-2) will honor their seniors between games of Thursday’s meeting with No.
17 Martin Methodist. The double-header with the RedHawks (39-8, 28-4) will start at 4 p.m. It's the last chance to
see the team play at home this season. A cookout is planned for 5 p.m.
With a win Trevecca would secure the conference championship for
the fourth consecutive season.
Trevecca will finish the regular season with a conference double-header
at Crichton College (11-31, 9-19) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
WOMEN'S GOLF:
The Trevecca women’s golf team will compete in the NAIA Region XI tournament that will be hosted
by Campbellsville University on May 1-2 at Maywood Country Club in Bardstown, Ky.
