Netball Brrrr! Chilly weather has given the netballers a couple of months break. But that does not mean
that we have been completely passive. We are doing lots of groundwork to find our new home court for 2008 and we hope to have
that wrapped up in the next few weeks, so look for that announcement. Assuming all goes well, we will be kicking off the Nashville
Netball League 2008 with a vengeance, starting with our Spring season opening on March 1st.
We had a great first year in the Pacific Coast Netball League
and hope that we will be able to continue to build on our success in 2007. And off course we are working hard to build up
Netball America. Our vision is to build up the players and teams in America such that we can take several teams to
compete overseas, including all-American, ladies, and mixed teams. We are looking for more players to take the court with us, to have a huge amount of fun, and to get
fit all at the same time. Netball is a non-contact sport open to all ages, both men and women. We currently have players as
young as 12 and as old as... I well better not go there! No experience is required. We will teach you the rules (very much
like basketball and ultimate frisbee) during our practices; just bring your court shoes and you are all set. And we will have
lots of games in a fun competition. For more information, whether you want to play, or just to check it out, send an email
to our Netball Coordinator Mark Logsdon (netball at nashvillekangaroos.org) or Head Coach Moreen Logsdon (netballcoach at
nashvillekangaroos.org) [substitute the @ sign in the email address].

A
Message From The Coach February
means one thing to me as coach of the Nashville Kangaroos Football team: only one more month until training officially starts!
We had such a terrific year in 2007 both on and off the field, that not even the cold winds nor the snow can dampen my enthusiasm
for what is possible in 2008. As the entire administrative staff has been getting prepared to launch 2008, I feel like I have
been more busy than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest!
February means one thing to me as coach of the Nashville Kangaroos Football team: only one more
month until training officially starts! We had such a terrific year in 2007 both on and off the field, that not even the cold
winds nor the snow can dampen my enthusiasm for what is possible in 2008. As the entire administrative staff has been getting
prepared to launch 2008, I feel like I have been more busy than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest!
First order of business has been to get the schedule set. We have locked in
nine games for the year and what a challenging schedule it will be. We have welcomed back the Atlanta Kookaburras
after a hiatus last year, with a home and away series. That makes good sense as they are close enough to drive. We have added
Division II champions, the Minnesota Freeze, as they have stepped up to the MAAFL Championship level this year. They
fairly well thumped us at nationals last year and we are looking forward to avenging that loss. And finally, we have confirmed
the Florida Redbacks, for a first-ever meeting between our two clubs. We will be returning this visit in 2009 and
hopefully many of you, our faithful fans, will make a Florida weekend out of that game! In addition, we have our carry forward
matches from last year: Baton Rouge Tigers, Chicago United, Cincinnati Dockers, Milwaukee Bombers, and the St.
Louis Blues. Yes, this is a challenging schedule, but one that will provide great entertainment for our fans and prepare
us for the nationals in Colorado Springs this October. See our Schedule page for full details. Second order of business is to get our player roster shaped up. We have been doing
some off season training with the Vanderbilt Commodores footy club. And several of our boys ran the Nashville Zoo
5K Run last month. But just returning the great group of boys from last year is not going to be enough. We are looking for
more players to bolster our local league as well. While our official training does not begin until March 6, we are not waiting
to get started. Thus, we are instituting a Tryouts and Recruitment Day, on Saturday February 23. This day is for all current
players, and for anyone who has thought about playing with us. Come on out to Elmington Park (see our Training page
on the website for full details), from 1 pm to 5 pm. We will be running a skills clinic, fitness drills, and teaching the
basics to newcomers and finer points to the old timers. Afterwards, we will be heading out to our favorite watering hole,
the upstairs clubhouse at the G. Nashville Kangaroos

Footy Update During
the months of March and April, we are training at the Vanderbilt soccer fields. Tuesdays from 7-9 pm we are at Capers Field,
and Thursdays from 7-9 pm we are at Natchez Trace Field. From May through August, we are at Elmington Park, with training
from 6:30 until sundown. From September until we head off to Colorado Springs for the US Nationals tourney on October 10th,
we are back at Vanderbilt (see our Training page for full details). Come
on out and join the fun in the sun (promise - the sun will be returning) playing the hottest new sport in Nashville.
'Footy' The football committee has been hard at work putting together a challenging season for the Rooboys.
We were hoping that the finishing touches would be complete at press time, but there are still two open items. A couple of
things to notice: Cincinnati and Louisville are joining forces this year as they compete in the MAAFL Championship. The Minnesota
Freeze (who thumped the Rooboys at Nationals in October) are stepping up to compete at the MAAFL Championship level. That
gives the MAAFL six teams in the competition. Atlanta Kookaburras are back on the schedule after taking a year hiatus, and
as they are close enough to drive, we are doing home and away. The Ft. Lauderdale Invitational is the inaugural event being
held at the brand new, 25,000 seat, three footy fields facility (yes, three!) that was just completed. This arena meets the
standards to host an AFL game. Wow! The Third International Cup is being held in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary season
of the AFL. Already two Rooboys have qualified for the team.
Training:
ah yes, the training schedule. Official training begins March 4 in conjunction with the Vanderbilt team, and all Roos are
invited to train with Vanderbilt starting Tuesday Jan 15 as well. The schedule is Tuesdays at Capers field 7-9 pm and Thursdays
at Natchez filed 7-9 pm, through April. Beginning in May, we will be in the friendly confines of Elmington Park Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 6:30- 8:30 pm through August. September through the Exhibition match in November we will be with the Vanderbilt
squad again. 2008 Kangaroos Footy Schedule April
